September 2023 update – Sadly Satori Coffee closed its doors permanently. Now we only have the memories.

Satori Coffee House is on every coffee shop listing for the Mobile area. What you don’t often read about is how much of a center for the arts it is, especially music.

Satori is in the “Village of Springhill,” which is near the University of South Alabama, which is to say that it serves as a watering hole and as a place of expression for many college age patrons. However, every other Sunday, when its free Open Mic Night is held, people of all ages, families, even a dog or two, gather to listen to local (and temporarily local) talent. Satori also schedules special concert nights when a single performer, or perhaps a band, can be enjoyed for a small fee.

It’s a relaxed atmosphere (no need to get out your Sunday’s best) where you can enjoy a variety of drinks and food items. Their events are posted on Facebook and Instagram, but if you don’t live in the area, I recommend you call them first to confirm Open Mic Night is happening that week. (I went once when nothing was going on, even though it was listed on FB.)

Satori Coffee House is located at 5460 Old Shell Rd Mobile, AL 36608.

P.S.: After more than three decades in Los Angeles, I moved to Mobile, AL, last month. It’s my hope to do here what I was doing in LA – letting people know about good spots to visit, movies, and theater. If I like it, I figure others will too. Do come back for more!
