Discover the latest captivating performance by 86-year-old Anthony Hopkins as Sigmund Freud in “Freud’s Last Session.” This film, based on Mark St. Germain’s 2009 play, envisions an intriguing meeting between C.S. Lewis (Matthew Goode) and Freud at his London home in 1939. The inspiration for this encounter comes from Freud’s documented meeting with an unnamed Oxford don shorty before his death.
Picture a unique conversation between two of the twentieth century’s greatest minds, delving into beliefs about mankind’s future and the existence of God. Freud, a proud atheist and pioneer of psychoanalysis, engages in a spiritual debate with Lewis, a theological believer that would become also famous for works like “The Chronicles of Narnia.”

Set against the backdrop of Freud’s battle with oral cancer and the looming war with Germany, the film explores their opposing points of view. As one sees Freud adding morphine to his whiskey and fidgeting with a suicide pill, the movie turns out to be quite informative, especially for anyone unfamiliar with Freud’s final days.
“Freud’s Last Session,” runs for 108 minutes and is rated PG-13 due to some war images and smoking. It is now streaming on Netflix.
