If you’re a Shakespeare fan, here’s a quick 10-minute recommendation that’s sure to brighten your day—and it’s free!
Will’s Dramaturg is a short, clever play by Rich Rubin, presented in podcast form by Open-Door Playhouse. In this witty piece, a theater expert advises a young William Shakespeare, nudging him to think about things like theater demographics and “writing what you know.”
Rubin, based in Portland, Oregon, is an award-winning playwright with numerous full-length plays under his belt. His works are smart, humorous, and delightful, whether read or, in this case, listened to. Will’s Dramaturg stars Jeffrey S.S. Johnson and Andrew Elvis Miller, with direction by Kim Hlavac.
Open-Door Playhouse launched its podcast on September 15, 2020, during the pandemic to offer a creative outlet for playwrights, actors, and directors. It was met with such enthusiasm that the project has continued through 2024. There’s no paywall on the Open-Door Playhouse website, so you can enjoy this episode and many other 10-minute and short plays at no cost. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donations are always appreciated but not required. Episodes are also available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify.
