If you’re planning a foodie outing around Mobile Bay this month, I’ve got four delicious stops you won’t want to miss. From throwed rolls and smoky BBQ to fresh Gulf seafood and sunset pier dining, these spots are all about big flavors, laid-back vibes, and Southern charm. Whether you’re local or just visiting, here are my favorite restaurant discoveries for May—listed by distance from Mobile for your road trip convenience!

🔥 Meat Boss – Mobile, AL

Address: 5401 Cottage Hill Rd, Mobile, AL 36609
Phone: (251) 591-4842

I learned about this place from Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives TV show. Tucked away on Cottage Hill Road, Meat Boss is easy to miss, but its flavor is big. This counter-service BBQ joint is known for letting you build your own sandwich or plate with tender pulled pork, brisket, smoked turkey, and ribs. Their Jalapeño (pronounced, btw, haw-lah-pae-nyo), and the sides—especially the banana pudding—bring it all home. This is a no-fuss place, but check the hours because they close early.

🎶 The Bluegill – Spanish Fort, AL

Address: 3775 Battleship Pkwy, Spanish Fort, AL 36527
Phone: (251) 625-1998

The Bluegill is all about waterfront dining (as it is on the eastern portion of the Causeway) with a side of live music. It’s hard to beat a good plate of raw oysters accompanied by the tunes from local bands (evenings and weekends). The relaxed, no-fuss atmosphere makes it ideal for a weekend hangout or a low-key date night. Weekend evenings are popular and there might be a long waiting list. However, you can always spend that time at the bar with drinks and appetizers.

🐟 The Blind Tiger – Fairhope, AL

Address: 1 Fairhope Ave, Fairhope, AL 36532
Phone: (251) 442-4008

Perched on the Fairhope Municipal Pier, The Blind Tiger brings a breezy, coastal energy and amazing views. The menu includes fish tacos, conch fritters, and shrimp po’boys served in an open-air setting with sunset-worthy scenery. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and there was live music and lots of people walking up and down, and fishing at, the pier. It’s a great way to wrap up a weekend.

🍞 Lambert’s Café – Foley, AL

Address: 2981 S McKenzie St, Foley, AL 36535
Phone: (251) 943-7655

From Mobile, it’s about an hour and 15-minutes to reach this place, but it’s different enough to be worth your time. This is the place where they literally throw bread rolls at you. Go hungry and say yes to every pass-around (fried okra, macaroni and tomatoes, fried potatoes, etc.). You can choose to purchase only the pass-arounds, or you can enjoy them for free when you order an entree. The don’t serve alcohol, but the soft drinks and teas are huge! And you can buy a cup to take home for $8.50. One thing is for sure – you won’t leave this place hungry. Do try to catch a bun!

No matter which direction you pick, these restaurants bring the kind of flavor that reminds you why the Gulf Coast is such a foodie paradise. Have a favorite I should try next? Drop it in the comments—I’m always on the hunt for the next bite.
