Raise your hand if you’ve ever seen someone excitedly say “Puerto Rico” before correcting themselves to “Costa Rica”…

We know it’s a harmless slip, especially when the conversation is about something as extraordinary as the pink pineapple. A recent segment on Good Morning ArkLaMiss had nutrition expert Jen Avis slip up: “Puerto Rico… I mean Costa Rica,” and the moment entertained me as much as the fruit itself. (Watch the segment here.)
Make no mistake: this rare fruit is proudly Costa Rican.
My Taste Test
Last year, my brother mailed me one of these stunning pink pineapples. The flesh was a beautiful blush color, almost too pretty to cut into. The flavor? Sweet, delicate, and refreshing, with less acidity than a regular pineapple. I’m sharing here a few of the photos I took back then.

Why the Pink Pineapple is Special
- Origin & Growing: Known as the Rosé or Pink Glow pineapple, this unique variety hit the market around 2020. It’s grown exclusively in Costa Rica and takes nearly 24 months, double the time of common pineapples to fully ripen.
- Natural Color: Its inviting pink hue comes from lycopene, the same antioxidant that gives tomatoes and watermelon their red tone.
- Health Benefits: This rosy fruit isn’t just a pretty face. It’s reported to offer:
- Cancer-preventive potential
- Support for eye and heart health
- Relief from diabetic nerve pain
- Stress relief in the bones
A Proud Costa Rican Treasure
The pink pineapple is more than just eye-catching, it’s a nutritional powerhouse rooted in Costa Rican soil. And yes, even if someone mixes up another country with Costa Rica in the excitement of talking about it, we know exactly where this treasure comes from!
